Macular Degeneration
Macular
degeneration is a serious disorder in which, there is loss of vision in center
of the macula due to damage in the retina part. In this disease, eye loses its
sense of perception, sharpness and the central vision. It usually affects
people over 50 years of age, although now it is also found in younger adults.
Types of Macular Degeneration
1.
Juvenile
Macular Degeneration:
It
shows its initial sign in the age of 6 to 20. In it the lipid deposit
underneath the RPE protective layer in the retina. As the deposits grow by
time, the RPE layer gets damaged. As the nutrients flow to the light receptors
above the layer and ensures the loss of vision by the human eye.
2.
Dry Age-Related
Macular Degeneration:
It is
also similar to the juvenile macular degeneration but usually occurs at the
advanced age and is the leading cause of blindness in adults.
3.
Wet Age-Related
Macular Degeneration:
In this
type of macular degeneration, blood capillaries underneath the RPE layer and
embed themselves by the light receptor rods, cones and cells. As a result, the
blood capillaries burst and create deposits that cut the supply of nutrients to
light receptors. This cause the death or deterioration of light receptors.
